Half of The Swimmers was shot from the shore. The other half needed me in the loch, at eye level with the people in it.
I used a soft housing made for snorkelling, a 35mm camera with a wide lens and a borrowed kayak for the deeper water.
What actually went wrong
Not the camera. My hands stopped working after fifteen minutes in January, so every swim became a fifteen-minute shoot.
Cold water edits for you. You only keep the frames you had time to make.
The kayak tipped once. The dry bag held.
